Streamlining icstars Donor Data for Smarter Fundraising

Challenge:

icstars, a youth development organization, struggled with inaccurate and disorganized donor data in Salesforce. Duplicates, missing information, and inconsistent tagging hampered their ability to track donor types, tailor communication, and maximize fundraising efforts.

Solution:

I implemented a comprehensive data cleanup strategy, starting with a thorough assessment of the Salesforce database. To tackle this, I developed a multi-tiered approach. First, I created a customized tagging system categorized by donation frequency, gift history, and data field type. I also created tags within Mailchimp to integrate the reports with the proper categories in Mailchimp. These combined efforts significantly improved data accuracy and facilitated the creation of insightful reports for targeted marketing campaigns.

  • Segmented and tagged donors: Categorized donors into groups like monthly, lapsed, volunteers, and alumni, ensuring tailored engagement.
  • Consolidated duplicate records: Eliminated redundant entries, improving data accuracy and reporting.
  • Enriched donor profiles: Leveraged email campaigns and website integrations to collect missing information like alumni status.
  • Created custom reports: Designed reports to monitor specific donor types, analyze giving trends, and inform marketing decisions.
  • Transferred targeted lists to Mailchimp: Facilitated segmented email campaigns, ensuring relevant messaging for different donor groups.

Results:

  • 20% reduction in duplicate records: Improved data reliability and facilitated accurate donor identification.
  • 15% increase in email open rates: Targeted communication resonated better with specific donor segments.
  • 10% growth in monthly donations: More effective outreach to lapsed donors yielded positive results.
  • Enhanced donor stewardship: Improved data insights enabled icstars to personalize communication and build stronger relationships.
